North Cape Yacht Club has a rich tradition of competitive sailing, from our friendly Wednesday night races to hosting National and North American Championship regattas.

Whether you're a seasoned racer or new to competitive sailing, NCYC offers opportunities at every level. Our racing program has produced regional, national, and even Olympic champions, while maintaining a welcoming atmosphere for sailors of all abilities.

Wednesday Night Racing

Our most popular racing program runs every Wednesday evening from mid-May through late September. It's the perfect introduction to competitive sailing in a fun, social atmosphere.

Racing Classes

We organize racing into several classes to ensure fair competition:

  • PHRF Classes: Performance Handicap Racing Fleet for cruiser-racers
  • One-Design Classes: Identical boats racing head-to-head
  • Spinnaker/Non-Spinnaker: Separate divisions based on sail configuration
  • Junior Classes: Youth racing in 420s, Lasers, and Optis

3-race series in May to kick off the season

North Cape Regatta

Commodore's Cup

July championship for club members

Race Committee & Volunteers

Quality racing depends on dedicated volunteers. Our race committee ensures fair, well-organized events following US Sailing's Racing Rules of Sailing. We welcome members to volunteer as:

  • Principal Race Officer (PRO)
  • Mark boat operators
  • Finish line recorders
  • Safety boat crew
  • Shore support and scoring
