At North Cape, our cruising fleet is an active and dynamic group of people that represents a broad and diverse cross section of our club's population; from families to retirees, and from couples to single-handers.

Our members are a blend of sailors of all experience levels sailing boats ranging from 20's to 50-footers. We enjoy the ports-of-call we visit around the lakes; but more importantly, we enjoy the camaraderie and friendships we share with our fellow sailors. Regardless of your sailing and cruising experience, you'll feel a welcomed part of our cruising family.

Cruising Schedule

We head out on the lakes each season for several planned cruising activities designed to satisfy the interests and roaming needs of most sailors; from our weekend getaways to nearby ports to the week-plus vacation cruises stopping at multiple harbors. Our active cruising schedule generally includes overnighting in 6-7 different ports through the summer.

🏝️ Middle Bass Island Weekend

This popular 3-day weekend cruise to the marina at Middle Bass Island State Park provides our group with the opportunity for a quiet weekend to explore the island, visit with friends at MBI Yacht Club, and enjoy the pool and bar at JF Walleye's; but, most of all, enjoy the company of good friends within our own cruising fleet.

🍂 Fall Colors Cruise

In September when the vibrant colors of fall are beginning to show, and before the fall boat haul-outs start, we try to get one more weekend cruise in. It may be a short sail up to one of our neighboring yacht clubs at the southern end of the Detroit River or a port on the northern shore of Ohio. Wherever the destination, it's sure to be a good time had together with friends.

☀️ Summer Cruises

Throughout the summer, we visit beautiful ports around Western Lake Erie and beyond, with opportunities for biking, strolling around the port, playing games, enjoying potlucks, dining out, and the famous after-dinner ice cream cones.

When Home at the Club

Our cruising community stays active even when not traveling:

  • "Classic North Cape Cruisers" weekend potluck dinners
  • "Deck The Cape" - The annual holiday decorating event where we dress-out the club in its holiday finery
  • NCYC Annual Winter Rendezvous at The Three Fisherman in N. Ft. Myers, FL
  • Volunteer opportunities to help and support club fundraising and dinner events

What Members Say

"I liked being on the club cruises with all the boats in our fleet docked together in a group, it gave you a sense of belonging. And that is because everyone is so friendly and willing to help out when necessary. If you haven't gone cruising with the group, give it a try! After just one cruise, you'll feel like you've known everyone for 20 years too!"

- Julia Griffith, a 20 year+ North Cape cruiser

"Whether biking, strolling around the port, playing a game, enjoying a potluck, dining out or walking for the famous after-dinner ice cream cones, it was always a good time."
